Dykes in League row - December 20, 2000

Finn Harps manager Gavin Dykes landed himself in hot water yesterday after blasting the Eircom League in a radio interview.

Speaking on local radio in Donegal, Dykes claimed that the league is being run "unprofessionally".

But his outburst drew an immediate response from league chairman Michael Hyland, who advised the Harps manager to mind his own business.

Dykes, whose club are second from bottom in the premier table and in deep financial trouble, said: "Something has to be done. Most clubs in this country are in financial trouble and the league is not run very well.

"I think it is up to the FAI, the league and the Government to sit down and sort this out, because we could be left without a decent side in the country."

But Hyland retorted: "Gavin Dykes would be better off looking after his team and leaving the running of the club to Martin Hannigan and his directors.

"We have an ongoing commitment within this league to be responsible for every club and to ensure that facilities continue to be improved."
