Harps keen on Kamelj - September 15, 2000

Trialist Kamelj Avdiu has made such an impact at Finn Harps that after only one week of his four-week trial, the club are ready to offer him a contract.

Kosovan-born Avdiu scored on his debut for the Ballybofey club in their 3-2 defeat by UCD at Belfield last weekend and impressed manager Gavin Dykes somuch that the Harps legend is about to offer the player a deal.

Dykes said: "I hope to get Kamelj to agree a deal to stay at the club. Even though he joined us only last week it has been clear that he has a lot to offer.

"He is quick and strong and has an eye for goal. He caused UCD lots of problems and was unlucky not to get a hat trick.

"I think he could be a great signing for us and, while he is here for another three weeks, I am ready to ask him to stay longer. He has settled in quite well and I think he would be happy to stay with us."

The 23-year-old striker should be in Finn Harps starting line-up for their game against Kilkenny City at Ballybofey on Saturday night.
