O'Callaghan slaps in transfer request - January 30, 2001

Young Irish midfielder George O'Callaghan has slapped in a transfer request at Port Vale after being left out of the squad at the weekend.

The 22-year-old Corkman has made only eight first-team appearances this season, seven of them as substitute. Things came to a head this weekend when he was dropped from the squad all together for the away game against Rotherham.

"I think everyone knows my affection for Port Vale. I don't want to leave the club but I want first-team football and I don't feel I am getting the chances here," the Irishman said.

O'Callaghan is now one of nine players on the list at Vale Park - but the other eight, including fellow Irishman Liam Burns, did not request a move.

Of the Irish contingent at Port Vale, only Michael Cummins - who scored against Rotherham - is getting regular first-team football, while Dean Delaney is first-choice back-up to 'keeper Mark Goodlad.
