Kelly commits future to Leeds - June 14, 2000 Gary Kelly was not going to be outdone by fellow Leeds United Irishmen Ian Harte and Stephen McPhail. The pair have pledged their future to the Yorkshire club over the last couple of months and Kelly has decided to do the same. Kelly has also said he wants to stay at Leeds not just for the rest of his playing career but he also wants to move into coaching at the club after he has finished playing. Kelly signed a five-and-a-half year contract back in February. He said: "I'm from a large family and it took me a long time to settle over here but I would never even think of uprooting again. "Hopefully I'll see out my playing days here and, who knows, at the end of it they might make me the Youth team coach." Gary seems to be a veteran at Leeds United but he is still only a youngster at 25. He has played 280 first team games with Leeds, which is only second to David Batty at the club and even at that he is only four games behind the English midfielder. He could go on to beat Jack Charlton's appearance record of 773 games for the club. On that record, Kelly said: "That would be something wouldn't it? Next season will be my tenth at Leeds and I've no interest in going anywhere else." |
