Kavanagh 'fury' at omission - March 6, 2001

Republic of Ireland international Graham Kavanagh is said to be furious at his omission from Stoke City's side for last weekend's game against Colchester. His disaffection completes the set of Irish players for Stoke, who have already had transfer requests this season from James O'Connor and Clive Clarke.

Kavanagh came on as a sub against Colchester and scored Stoke's third goal - but he wasn't happy that he had been left out in the first place, just days after being called into the Republic of Ireland's senior squad for the full international against Denmark.

Manager Gudjon Thordarson tried to ease the tension by promising Kavanagh that he would be in the side for last night's LDV Northern semi-final against Port Vale.

Kavanagh did start that match - but won't at all have been pleased that he was called ashore after just 68 minutes as Stoke went down 2-1 to their neighbours and bitter rivals.
