Cats do it again - January 7, 2001

Galway United 0 Kilkenny City 2

Terryland seems to be the only ground Kilkenny can win on this season - and that includes Buckley Park! This was the Cats' first win in fifteen games and their first since Joe McGrath took over as manager.

But there were signs last time out against Bray that Kilkenny had turned the corner - and Galway were just waiting to be mugged.

The home side looked to be going through the motions when Carlos Rocha set the game alight seven minutes before half time. He dribbled his way right through the Galway defence before setting up Warren Parkes for a shot. The former Athlone and St. Pats' striker beat Dave Forde from a narrow angle.

Galway woke up and pressed the Kilkenny goal throughout the second half, but with more force than finesse - and they frequently left themselves open on the counter.

Kilkenny finally made them pay on one such occasion a minute from time, when Derek McGrath's early ball caught the defence napping and Paul McAreavey was clean through to finish clinically.
