Galway in trouble again - January 13, 2001

Galway United 0 Cork City 2

James Mulligan repaid another slice off his £15,000 transfer fee when his 74th-minute goal broke the Terryland deadlock and sent Cork City on their way to a full-point haul.

Galway, having already hauled themselves out of the relegation positions once this season look like they will have to do it again: three defeats on the trot have left them in a position which is far worse than it looks, with all the teams below them having games in hand.

They looked good value for at least a draw for most of this match and squandered several chances to take the lead.

But Cork took what chances fell their way, Mulligan smashing home Kelvin Flanagan's corner after the ball somehow found its way across a crowded box; and John Cotter making extra sure by grabbing a breakaway goal in the final minute as Galway tried to force the issue.
