Fans to protest as Cork meet Galway - January 12, 2001

Galway United v Cork City 19:45

The Shed will stage a protest tonight at Terryland as Cork City take on Galway United - and an even bigger demo at Turners Cross after Sunday's cup replay against Longford Town.

Fans are unhappy over City's proposed link with Carling Premiership side Leicester which, they believe, could drain the Irish club of young players.

Damien Delaney recently moved from Cork to Leicester for a paltry £50,000. He made his first-team debut last weekend in the FAI Cup. The Foxes are believed to be eyeing up another young Cork player, Tony Tynan.

Cork fans are aggrieved that negotiations between the two clubs were going ahead in secret.

Tonight's game sees Neal Horgan make his long-awaited return to the first-team squad after injury and Declan Daly is also available again. But Greg O'Halloran is suspended.

Galway boss Don O'Riordan has fitness doubts about defenders Tom Silke and Scott Morgan and strikers Stephen Grant and Sean Malee.
