Peter Gains a first-team place and wants more - September 8, 2000 Lincoln City midfielder Peter Gain made his first start of the season for his club during the week in the Worthington Cup and he hopes he has done enough to retain his place. Gain impressed in the 1-0 win against Sheffield United and after putting injury behind him is looking for a lengthy run in the first-team. He had been used as a substitute twice before Wednesday's match - but the Sheffield game was the first time this year that he started and finished. The 23-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur player is beginning his second season with Lincoln since signing for them in 1998 for £15,000 after impressing while on loan at Sincil Bank. The player feels that he has the chance to shine now he has played in the team. He said: "Hopefully, I have done enough to stay in the team for the Torquay game on Saturday, but you can take nothing for granted at the club right now because everyone is fighting for places and if you get injured there is no way you can be certain of a place when you return." "I was flying in pre-season and felt really good," admitted Gain, "Then I got that injury against Rotherham and I hardly got a look-in afterwards." |
