Vale look to Freeman - September 8, 2000

The Irish contingent at Port Vale could be at five if manager Brian Horton gets his way and agrees with Nottingham Forest to bring striker David Freeman on loan.

Already at Vale Park are Michael Cummins, Liam Burns, Brendan O'Callaghan and recent arrival Dean Delaney. The 20-year-old striker would welcome first-team football after being mostly overlooked for the past two seasons at Forest.

Freeman has only played three times for his club and all of those were as substitute. He has not figured at all this year even though Forest are struggling somewhat.

He played for the Port Vale reserves on Wednesday night and scored in a 2-0 win over Birmingham City - which prompted manager Horton to contact Forest manager David Platt in a bid to get the striker on loan.

He hopes to have the services of Freeman for Port Vale's trip to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Vale were hoping to bounce straight back to Division One after being relegated last season but they are finding the going harder than expected in Division Two.
