Irish come to the rescue of under-fire Forest - August 9, 2000

There is no stopping the Irish at Nottingham Forest. The players involved with the club's u19 side are on fire at the moment - and they needed to be against Bayer Leverkusen last night in the Euro Challenge at the club's new Youth Academy.

A brace from Andy Reid and goals for Niall McNamara and Keith Foy helped Forest to a 6-0 win against Rosenborg on Sunday and the Irish managed three goals last night in a 4-4 draw with the Germans.

Forest were left reeling after only 25 minutes when they found themselves trailing 3-0 - but then the Irish stepped up a gear and pulled them back in the game.

Niall McNamara got them back on track and his well-taken goal was closely followed by an equally impressive one for John Thompson. The talented Andy Reid drew the teams level just before half time with his third goal in two games.

The Germans took the lead again in the second half but again an Irish-influenced goal drew Forest level. Keith Foy swung in a great corner which was met by Westcarr and the English underage international headed home for a share of the spoils.
