Reid scores on Forest debut - November 30, 2000
It was only a matter of time before Irish underage star Andy Reid got his chance in the Nottingham Forest first team - and it came last night in the win over Sheffield United which sent Forest up to sixth place in the division-one table.
Reid has been prolific for the Forest u19 and reserve sides this season and his inclusion on the bench for the Tranmere game at the weekend showed that Platt was close to giving him his chance.
Reid started last night along with fellow Irish star Keith Foy and neither youngster disappointed. Andy was involved in Forest's first goal and then scored their second to secure all three points for David Platt's team.
Reid was involved in everything positive that Forest did on the night and his goal was just reward for his industrious play. It came in the 64th minute when David Prutton went on a 50-yard run before picking out the Dubliner, who had got himself free in the box. Andy took one touch to control the ball before blasting his shot past a helpless Simon Tracey.
Manager David Platt was delighted with Reid's performance. He said: "He had six or seven shots on goal over the course of the game and caused them problems, so I was not surprised that he got a goal. We know that he's a good finisher and he stuck his chance away extremely well."
