Rover and out for Shels pair and Evans? - February 20, 2001

Shelbourne duo Richie Foran and Richie Baker return to Dublin today after a three-day trial at Bristol Rovers - and now they must wait to hear whether the Nationwide second-division club will make a bid for their services.

For Foran, it's a second trial stint in a fortnight: last week the youngster was put through his paces at Premiership Middlesbrough.

Shelbourne have slapped a Stg£125,000-each price tag on the pair - but would entertain a 'job-lot' offer of around Stg£200,000 from Rovers for the two u21 internationals.

Rovers boss Gary Thompson has just offloaded winger Michael Meaker to Plymouth - and it looks like former Republic of Ireland frontman Mickey Evans could be about to follow the same route.

Evans is Plymouth born and started his career at Home Park before moving to Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. Thompson is reportedly prepared to take a substantial loss on the £250,000 down payment Rovers made to West Brom earlier this season.

Thompson last week transfer-listed twelve players, including Meaker and Evans - primarily to cut his wage bill.

Meaker said: "Mickey has always spoken highly of Plymouth as a club. I know they are interested in him and I would think he would jump at the chance if it materialised."
