Foran fever gathers momentum- September 26, 2000

The hottest property in Eircom League football will come under the spotlight tonight when Shelbourne take on St. Pat's at Richmond Park.

It is only a matter of time before the league loses the talents of 20-year-old striking sensation Richie Foran - but it's anybody's guess which team he will join.

Shelbourne manager Dermot Keely is in no hurry to get rid of his star turn and he will definitely not be ripped off by anybody when it comes to the price tag.

He turned down a £120,000 offer from Leicester City for Foran last week but it is expected that the Filbert Street scouts will be back to look at the striker again.

They will apparently have plenty of competition for Foran's services. It is expected that a number of scouts will be at the game tonight, including representatives from Manchester United, Middlesbrough, West Ham, Derby County and Celtic.

If Foran impresses, it could start a bidding war - good news for Shelbourne as they would be sure of making a packet out of a player that they took a risk on at the start of the season.

One thing that Foran must sort is his indiscipline. He has been sent off twice in his last three games and picks up a booking in nearly every single game.

If he can sort that it looks as if he has a huge future in the game because he is a natural striker with pace and intelligence to burn.
