Folan hands-off warning for Galway - July 3, 2000

Galway United's bid to bring Brentford's Tony Folan to Terryland Park has not been met favourably at Griffin Park. Galway have been told in no uncertain terms that Folan is going nowhere as he is a part of Ron Noades' plans for the new season.

Galway-born Folan has been handed the number 14 shirt for the coming season in Division Two and Noades believes a fully fit Folan will provide the ammunition so badly missing for his forwards last season. When Tony joined Brentford from Crystal Palace he was an immediate success. He scored some scorching goals from his wing position but then got injured.

He missed almost all of the season with the injury but made a comeback for part of the last few matches. His trickery on either flank is seen as vital for the Bees, adding balance to the left-wing threat of Andy Scott.

But Galway manager Don O'Riordan is said to be in talks with Folan, whom Irish sources say is keen on a move back to the to his home county.
