Millwall claim that Fitzgerald is staying - July 24, 2000 Millwall have claimed that unsettled central defender Scott Fitzgerald is staying at the New Den despite interest from both Crystal Palace and Colchester. The club made an official statement over the weekend stating categorically that Fitzgerald will not be leaving the club. Scott was looking for a two-year contract with Millwall to stay put but they only offered a one-year deal. While the club are saying that the player is going nowhere, Fitzgerald is still keeping his options open. His agent is in talks with Colchester and Crystal Palace and both clubs are still interested. Colchester have made the 30-year-old an offer but he does not fancy a move to the struggling club. If Crystal Palace came in with an offer then he could not really refuse a move because he would be guaranteed First Division football. Fitzgerald said: "My agent has spoken to Steve Coppell and I am interested to hear what they have to say. "I have also spoken to Colchester but I am not sure about that move. I wanted a two-year contract at Millwall but they are only willing to give me one." |
