Colchester waiting on Fitzgerald answer - July 12, 2000

Colchester United's boss, Steve Whitton, is still waiting to hear from Millwall skipper Scott Fitzgerald regarding his possible move to Layer Road. The 30-year-old former Republic of Ireland B international is still undecided on his future.

Fitzgerald has told Millwall that he does not want to remain at the club and as soon as he has sorted a deal he will leave the New Den. Crystal Palace are thought to be interested in signing the defender, as are an unnamed Japanese club.

If Fitzgerald decides to move to Colchester he will be replacing fellow Irishman David Greene, who has signed for Cardiff City on a free transfer.

Whitton said: "We have made Fitzgerald an offer and are waiting for him and his agent to get back to us. There is nothing more definite than that."
