Fenn goes Dutch - July 18, 2000 Neale Fenn has had to look further afield for first-team football after his proposed move from Tottenham to Brentford fell when he failed to agree personal terms with Bees manager Ron Noades. Fenn is now in Holland on trial with Roosendaal who won promotion to top-flight football last season. The Republic of Ireland underage star played for Roosendaal in a pre-season friendly on Saturday and managed to score in a 2-1 win. He will get another chance to impress the Dutch on Wednesday in another friendly. Fenn is hoping to end his Tottenham nightmare by relaunching his career in Holland. No first-team appearances last season and the arrival of new players have left his future at the club looking very bleak. "It's not going to happen for me at Spurs," says Fenn. "I think I have to accept that and start looking elsewhere. I was in the reserves all year last season but next term I may not even get into the reserves as new players have come in and they will need games too. "Reserve-team football is no use to a player at my age. At 23 I need first-team football. I like it so far here in Holland. It's a small but ambitious club which has just been promoted and I hope I can do enough to impress and get a contract. "The club have been very good to me. They all speak English and they have signed Glenn Helder, whom I remember from his time at Arsenal." |
