FAI dope code ready to roll - January 18, 2001

The FAI's new Doping Charter will be launched on February 28 at a meeting of Eircom League clubs. The 22 clubs have been asked to send their secretaries, managers and medical staff.

The new charter, based on that of the Scottish FA, makes provision for drug testing at all levels of men's and women's soccer. Random tests will be carried out by the Sports Council's mobile unit, which will be able to operate even on grounds that have no facilities.

FAI anti-doping officer Paul Brady says: "Each of the 22 league club's will be asked to nominate its own anti-doping officer whose job it will be to make sure that players and officials within the club are fully informed of the ramifications. As this is a new area for most clubs, we want a full attendance on February 28."
