Kenny double takes the Cherry - November 20, 2000
Bluebell United, who went all the way to the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup last year, went crashing out of this year's competition at the first-round stage yesterday. A double strike from Paul Kenny was enough to see Cherry Orchard through, after the teams drew 1-1 a week ago.
In yesterday's other replay, Rockmount had it easy against Howth Celtic in Cork, winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Kieran O'Shea, Pat Oldham and Steve Yelverton.
Youghal United made sure there will be at least four Cork teams in the second-round draw by beating Whitehall Rangers 2-1 - Paddy Healy replying to strikes from Shane Corcoran and Alan Healy.
Tipperary's St. Michael's travelled to Kilkenny and came away with a 2-1 win over Freebooters, while Home Farm left it late to see off the challenge of Tralee Dynamos - Gerard Redmond bagging the winner on 87 minutes.
And Portmarnock left it even later to secure a 1-1 draw against Fanad United in Donegal, Declan Roche cancelling out Martin McAteer's 84th-minute strike with a 93rd-minute penalty!
A Michael McAteer goal early in the game was enough to give Moyle Park a 1-0 win over St. James Gate.
And a Mark Greene double against a single reply by Peter King saw Rathcoole through against Celbridge Town.
