Irish stars miss out on Cup - January 5, 2001

A host of Irish stars look set to miss out on FA Cup action with their Premiership clubs this weekend.

Tottenham's Stephen Carr has failed to recover from the groin injury which has kept him out of the last two games and will miss Spurs trip to Brisbane Road to play Orient.

Sunderland striker Niall Quinn has a back problem and manager Peter Reid has decided not to risk the Irishman for the Cup assignment against Crystal Palace. Danny Dichio will continue to deputise.

Injury also rules Mark Kennedy out of Manchester City's clash with Birmingham City.

Lee Carsley could miss out on the chance to make his Cup debut for Coventry against Swindon. He has a dead leg and faces a late fitness test.

Also doubtful is Derby utility player Rory Delap, whose knee injury could rule him out of the Rams' clash with West Ham.
