Big freeze threatens final - January 16, 2001

With low temperatures predicted throughout the day, there are fears that tonight's League Cup final first leg might fall victim to the weather.

A pitch inspection at Richmond Park is slated for noon today - but League officials say they won't make a final decision until the afternoon.

Because two Dublin clubs are involved, the deadline for reaching a decision is later than it would be if one of the teams involved had to travel a long distance.

League secretary Donal Crowther said: "If the pitch is frozen at noon, but there's a chance it might thaw during the day, we'd leave a final decision until the afternoon".
