Last night was one to forget for Eircom League clubs. Four went into pre-season friendlies against English opposition and only one, Bray Wanderers, came out with any sort of positive result. Wanderers faced Northampton Town at the Carlisle Grounds and earned a 0-0 draw.

Premier newboys Longford Town lost 3-2 against English second-division outfit Brighton and first division Cobh Ramblers were stuffed 3-1 by Swansea City.

Waterford United faced a high-profile friendly against Wolves at the RSC and acquitted themselves well despite losing 2-0.

Waterford held the game scoreless until the 76th minute but then Welsh wizard Carl Robinson broke the deadlock. Wolves wrapped up the win in the 86th minute when trialist Epesse Titi scored their second goal.
