Worrell injury blow - March 5, 2001
Young Irish defender David Worrell will be out of the game for the rest of the season after breaking his ankle on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Plymouth player went down in agony after colliding with his own goalkeeper, Romain Larrieu (who was making his debut), during the 1-1 draw with Barnet. X-rays later confirmed that the ankle was indeed broken.
David underwent surgery on Sunday morning and had a plate and two pins inserted into his ankle.
Worrell, who was a member of the Irish u20 team which made the initial breakthrough at underage level by finishing third in the world in Malaysia in 1997, has been ever-present in the Plymouth side since joining them from Dundee United in December.
The Dubliner initially went to Home Park on loan from the Scottish Premier club, but Argyle manager Paul Sturrock moved to make the deal permanent after just nine games.
It's another blow for Worrell who missed most of last season through injury too.
