Second awards for Dunne and Quinn - November 13, 2000 Irish stars of the future Richard Dunne and Barry Quinn each picked up their second Player of the Year Awards at the CityWest Hotel last night. Dunne - a previous winner of the u16 award - scooped the Young Player of the Year accolade ahead of Robbie Keane and Kevin Kilbane on the strength of his superb performances at the heart fo the Irish defence against Holland, Portugal and Estonia. And former u18 winner Barry Quinn of Coventry City took the u21 award, while Tranmere 'keeper Joe Murphy picked up this year's Youth Award. Shelbourne's Pat Fenlon beat off the challenge of Bohemians duo Glen Crowe and Kevin Hunt to win the Eircom League award, with Portmarnock's Keith Bruen winning the Junior award and the Intermediate award going to Brian Healy of Temple Rovers. Legendary Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pat Jennings was inducted into the international Hall of Fame, joining previous nominees like Bobby Moore, Eusebio and Franz Beckenbauer. And the Irish Hall of Fame award went to former Arsenal, Millwall and Shelbourne winger Joe Haverty, who won 32 caps for the Republic in the Fifties and Sixties. |
