Dunne must forget about Dons - September 26, 2000

It is time for Irish international defender Richard Dunne to forget about a move to Wimbledon and instead set his sights on somewhere else.

Dunne is not happy at Everton because manager Walter Smith won't play him in his favoured position at centre back.

Richard is adamant about the position that he wants to play in and if Everton are not accommodating then he needs to get away - but after the way Wimbledon treated him yesterday he should look elsewhere.

Dunne travelled to Selhurst Park for a routine medical and was expected to be named a Wimbledon player at some time yesterday afternoon after agreeing terms with the club.

But then out of the blue the Norwegian owners of the club refused to officially sanction the deal and he was left with his hands hanging, not knowing whether he was coming or going.

A confused Dunne said: "It is something within Wimbledon."

Dons boss Burton added: "I am disappointed because I was interested, but I am now going to look elsewhere."

If this is the way Wimbledon treat him before he even became one of their players how would life have been for him at Selhurst Park if he did join the club?

He would be jumping out of the frying pan (Everton) and into the fire (Wimbledon) - which would do his international hopes no favours.
