Dundalk 3 Sligo Rovers 1

Money-troubled Sligo looked to have given their division one promotion drive a massive boost when they led second-placed Dundalk for over an hour last night.

But supersub David Ward inspired a three-goal burst in eight minutes that buried the Bit o' Red in the Oriel Park mud.

Steve Birks put the visitors ahead as early as the second minute and it wasn't until Ward made his appearance 60 minutes later that Dundalk's luck changed.

Ward equalised with a speculative shot that 'keeper Danny O'Leary should have dealt with.

Within four minutes, Martin Reilly had pounced on a bad backpass by Carl Van der Velden to put the home side in front. And Donal Broughan got on the end of a 70th-minute Greg O'Dowd corner to wrap things up.

On the stroke of time, Sligo's troubles were compounded when Peter Rogers walked for a second yellow.
