Now Kiely faces op shock - February 22, 2001
What looked like a routine step on Dean Kiely's comeback from injury has turned into a nightmare.
The Charlton Athletic goalkeeper broke down during last night's reserve game against Ipswich Town and now faces surgery.
Kiely limped out of the game after just 22 minutes and will now see a specialist. That definitely rules him out of the Addicks' Premiership game against Coventry City on Saturday, as well as the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Denmark next Wednesday.
Kiely picked up the injury in giving away a penalty in the Premiership game against Derby County on January 30. He stayed on the field long enough to save the spot kick but quit minutes later and has been sidelined ever since.
