Wins for Cobh and Monaghan - September 7, 2000 Both Cobh Ramblers and Monaghan United scored morale-boosting wins in the Eircom First Division last night. Cobh hosted Limerick at Colman's Park and ran out easy 3-1 winners thanks to their twin strike partnership of Donal Golden and Paul Coughlan. Golden opened the scoring after nine minutes and added a second in the 66th. Coughlan scored in the 78th minute to make the points safe despite Limerick scoring a consolation in the 85th minute through Derek McCarthy. Elsewhere, Monaghan United travelled to Home Farm and left with all three points after an impressive 4-2 win to move them onto the coat-tails of the pace setters in Division One. Things didn't start that well for the visitors though as they conceded a penalty after just three minutes which Aaron Lynch dispatched into the back of the net. Anthony Mitchell pulled them level five minutes later with a header from a Ken Lundy cross and then added a second with a smashing 30-yard drive. Lundy got in on the scoring act on the hour mark to make it 3-1 and Gary Cummins all but made the points safe with Monaghan's fourth. Lynch scored his second of the night near the end but it was not enough for the home team who still have to register their first win of the season. |
