Irwin: no plans to leave Old Trafford - January 8, 2001
Reports linking Denis Irwin with a move to Middlesbrough have been quashed by the player and by Manchester United.
United have moved quickly to keep one of their favourite sons at the club. Denis is out of contract at United at the end of the season but the Old Trafford club are preparing a new deal which should be signed in the next couple of weeks.
Irwin, who is in his testimonial year with United, wants to finish his footballing career at the club and United will do everything in their power to make this possible.
Irwin said: "I've spoken with Alex Ferguson and explained I want to stay as long as possible - and provided I stay clear of serious injuries, I think I can go on at the top for another couple of years."
