Saints miss chance - February 18,
2001
Derry City 1 St. Patrick's Athletic 1
St. Pat's watched leaders Shelbourne held to a draw by north-east opposition on Friday night - but instead of taking advantage on Saturday, they succumbed to the same fate.
The Saints looked to be on their way when they had the better of the first half and crowned it with a goal just before the break. For the 13th time this season, Martin Russell floated a dead ball and a central defender - this time Stephen McGuinness - rose to head it home. It was McGuinness's third of the season, to go with Colm Foley's seven and Darragh Maguire's three.
But Derry stepped it up after the break and were rewarded after just nine minutes. Darren Kelly prodded it forward through a forest of legs and Eamonn Doherty steered it past Seamus Kelly.
That was more or less Doherty's last contribution as he limped off less than two minutes later. But it was enough to take Derry seven points clear of UCD in the relegation play-off place.
