Derry winners despite losing - November 14, 2000

Derry City 0 Manchester United 1

Derry City can now put their financial problems behind them after scooping nearly £100,000 last night after Manchester United visited the Brandywell for a promised game.

Derry, who were nearly out of business just month's ago after the English Tax office threatened a winding up order if they did not get their taxes in order.

That was achieved after Celtic visited for an exhibition game and last night's game against United will wipe out all their other debts.

As expected United travelled to Derry with an experimental side due to international commitments for most of their stars.

Derry held their own for long periods of the game but they inevitably went behind in the 64th minute when Alex Notman found some space in the box before picking his spot past John Connolly.
