Doyle leaps at Harriers chance - January 15, 2001
Daire Doyle has left Premiership Coventry City for the more humble surroundings of Kidderminster Harriers in a bid to kick-start his career with first-team football.
The 20-year-old midfielder with an eye for goal has languished in the Coventry reserves for the past couple of seasons. He had a trial at Kidderminster last October, scoring a hat-trick in a reserve game, and he impressed boss Jan Molby so much that he tried to sign the player there and then. But at the time terms could not be agreed.
Molby did not give up the chase for the Dubliner and finally got his man at the weekend. Molby said: "Daire is a player I've been watching for a while after impressing us earlier in the season. He is a young, mobile, aggressive midfielder and, in my opinion, is an exciting prospect. He has had a great upbringing under Gordon Strachan at Coventry and that will bode him well for the future."
Daire is delighted with the chance to get first-team football. He said: "I enjoyed my short stint earlier in the season and I'm delighted to have made the move ... I have also been very impressed by the set-up here. I have a better chance of first team football at Kidderminster and hopefully I will enjoy a successful time here."
