Delaney could get Cup chance - January 5, 2001

Damien Delaney is on the verge of first-team football with Leicester City - and his chance could come this Saturday as the Premiership club take on York city in the FA Cup.

The 19-year-old, who signed from Cork City in November for £50,000, has become an ever present in the Leicester reserve side and his manager, Peter Taylor, is ready to give him a chance.

Taylor said: "Damien has worked very well since he arrived here and stands a chance on Saturday of being included in the squad for the first time.

"The injuries we have in the squad at the moment could have opened the door for him. He has trained with the first team all week.

"He is looking stronger and stronger every day and I think he is going to be involved in the 16 against York on Saturday."
