Connolly has perfect goal disallowed - March 5, 2001
David Connolly is becoming a regular at the De Kuip stadium for Feyenoord after returning from the wilderness of Dutch Division Two football and with a bit of luck he would be enhancing his reputation with the Giants of Dutch football.
Connolly thought he had scored the winning goal against fourth-placed Vitesse Arnhem on Sunday - but the referee disallowed it for offside when it clearly wasn't.
The Feyenoord fans were incensed - but the referee was unmoved!
The win would have put Feyenoord just two points behind league leaders PSV Eindhoven with a game in hand and would have set up the end of the season for a grandstand finish.
It wasn't to be - and that leaves Feyenoord with a bit of work to do but if Connolly can show the form he showed for the 70 minutes he played on Sunday then maybe they can regain the championship.
