Clare back in training - February 27, 2001

Daryl Clare, Grimsby's Republic of Ireland u21 international striker, is back in training after several weeks out of action.

The 22-year-old arrived back from a loan spell at Cheltenham with a back injury and has not played since February 3.

Jersey-born Clare has been out of favour at Blundell Park in recent months, particularly since Lennie Lawrence took over as boss. He has played just 23 senior games this term - nine of them on loan at Northampton and then Cheltenham.

He said: "I'm out of contract at the end of the season and I want to make an impression during the rest of the season. I can only do that if I am fit, so, I am pleased that I will be able to do something this week."

Northampton tried to sign Clare permanently earlier this season but were rebuffed by then Grimsby manager Alan Buckley who slapped a £250,000 price-tag on the player's head.
