Luton release Dean Brennan - January 12, 2001
Young Irish midfielder Dean Brennan has had his worst fears confirmed by Luton Town's decision to release him. The 21-year-old Dubliner is one of four players on their way out of Kenilworth Road after a spring-clean by new manager Lil Fuccillo.
Brennan only joined Luton from Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the season, when Ricky Hill was the Hatters' manager. Hill, who had also been responsible for bringing the player to Hillsborough in the first place, made the Irishman a regular and Brennan clocked up eleven first-team appearances between August and October.
But since Fuccillo took over, the Dubliner has been out in the cold. Now he has been handed a free transfer and he joins Gavin McGowan, Rocky Baptiste and James Ayres in the car-park, as Fuccillo seeks to make room for new players.
Fuccillo said: "I have handed all four of these players free transfers but I am working to get them new clubs. We have had one or two inquires about our players but nothing has been finalised yet."
Brennan will hope to pick up another English club quickly - but his availability will ring a bell at Bohemians!
The youngster played two pre-season Supercup games for the Gypsies this year, scoring in a 2-2 draw against Cork City.
