Delaney straight into action for Foxes - October 25, 2000

Damien Delaney completed his £50,000 move from Cork City to English Premiership outfit Leicester City yesterday and went straight into the club's reserve team against Tottenham.

And while Leicester where beaten 6-0 that did not take the shine off Delaney's debut as he came through the game with his growing reputation intact and was the best Foxes player on the pitch.

The 6'3" left-sided player was impressive in his role on the wing but the same could not be said for the rest of the team as they were completely swamped by Spurs, for whom Willen Korsten scored four goals.

Spurs also played Gary Doherty as a central defender, a position in which the Irishman could excel if given the chance.

Delaney had choices to make before joining Leicester. Hibernian wanted his signature and he would have been close to guaranteed first-team football in Scotland - but instead he decided to join Leicester on a two-year contract where he is sure of nothing.
