Daly makes giant strides - July 25, 2000

Ireland's Jon Daly could be set for a big season with Stockport County. The 17-year-old, who has just returned to first-team action after a lengthy absence due to a leg break, is showing just how much talent he has on the club's tour of Scandinavia.

Daly came on a sub aginst Landskrona Bois last Thursday and impressed manager Andy Kilner so much that he started him against Kristianstad on Saturday.

Daly repaid the managers faith by scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory and held onto his place to face a Halmstad Select XI on Sunday.

Jon and his team-mates put the Halmstad team to the sword, with the young Irishman scoring his first ever senior hat-trick.

The way he is playing at the moment he is leaving his boss with no choice but to give him one of the striking berths when the season starts.
