Cork join Shels on top - September 11, 2000

Cork City 0 Longford 0

Cork City joined Shelbourne at the top of the Eircom League premier division yesterday, despite being held to a scoreless draw at Turners Cross by newboys Longford.

It was a bad day at the office for Cork, who had most of the ball but created few real chances until the frenetic closing minutes.

Longford set their stall out for a draw and, though they rode their luck in the end, fully deserved their point.

Cork boss Derek Mountfield flies home to Britain today to be with his wife, who was involved in a car accident last week.

When he gets back he must deal with Mark Herrick, who reacted petulantly to being substituted yesterday.

"I wasn't happy with his behaviour," Mountfield said afterwards.

Cork City: Mooney; Horgan, Daly, Napier, Delaney, Flanagan, Herrick, Cahill, Mulligan, Freyne, Morley.
Subs: O'Brien for Flanagan 53; O'Halloran for Herrick 62; Caulfield for Cahill 75.
Longford Town: O'Brien; Murphy, Smith, McNally, W. Byrne; Gavin, S. Byrne, Holt, Notaro; O'Connor, Zellor.
Subs: Perth for Holt 46; Farrell for Zellor 89; Coyle for Notaro 92.
Referee: J O'Neill (Waterford).
