Mountfield to keep the faith - January 24, 2001

Cork City v Shamrock Rovers, 14:00

Shamrock Rovers travel to Turners Cross for tonight's Eircom Premier game against Cork with so many injuries they're thinking of taking an ambulance instead of a coach. But Cork's Derek Mountfield has no such problems and is set to name the same team that started against Shelbourne on Sunday.

Striker James Mulligan, who left the pitch early with a calf strain against Shels, is Mountfield's only injury doubt. But even if he fails to make it, the Cork boss is likely to leave teenager Tony Tynan on the bench and start with veteran John Caulfield instead.

Tynan made a huge impact on Sunday when he came into the game with Cork trailing 1-0 and looking likely to concede again. His introduction - and Caulfield's - helped City battle back for a 1-1 draw which lifted the whole camp and go them talking again about qualifying for Europe this season.

"We had some chances to win the game but overall I think they balanced themselves out and I am pleased with the draw. We showed a lot of positives in the game including renewed drive and passion and now we have to keep that up until the final day of the season," Mountfield said.

Tonight is also the night for Cork to make the official announcement of their three-way link-up with Leicester City and local schoolboy outfit Mayfield United.
