Mazzoni is Lausanne worry - August 22, 2000

Star striker and skipper Javier Mazzoni is Lausanne-Sport's main injury worry ahead of their UEFA Cup second-leg clash with Cork City at Turners Cross on Thursday night.

Mazzoni sat out the Swiss side's 2-1 league win over Arrau at the weekend as a precautionary measure, after pulling a stomach muscle in the first leg against Cork.

If he fails to make it in time, Lausanne boss Pierre-Andre Schurmann is preparing to throw in 19-year-old Pape Thiaw as Mazzoni's replacement.

"Pape has done well in the last couple of games - especially against Arrau, when he scored," Schurmann said. "But we will have to wait and see if plays on Thursday."

Cork were unlucky to lose1-0 to an 89th-minute goal in Switzerland and have won both their Eircom league games since then.

Manager Derek Mountfield's only problem is an enviable one - whether to bring in regular full back Greg O'Halloran or stick with understudy Neal Horgan.

O'Halloran is available again after serving out a two-match ban.
