Mystery bug ends O'Grady's chance - August 11, 2000 Conor O'Grady's dream of playing across the water was left in tatters because of a mystery bug which struck him down. Conor was on trial at Scottish Premier side Dundee for a week and was hoping to be offered a permanent contract but now he will return to Ireland to play with Sligo Rovers. It is a pity for the Irish u21 international because he has the game to compete at the highest level. And, let's be fair, the Scottish League is not the highest level. O'Grady is a big strong player with an eye for goal. He can play in midfield or as an out-and-out striker and looks equally comfortable in either position. He will come back to Ireland disappointed but it is unlikely that Sligo Rovers will be able to hold onto his services for long because he is head and shoulders above the standard of the Eircom First Division. «back to eircom league stories |
