Connolly is searching for a club - July 12, 2000 Republic of Ireland striker David Connolly is searching for a new club after Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk informed him that he had no future at the De Kuip Stadium. It was expected that the new manager would give Connolly a chance to prove himself at the club after impressing on loan at Excelsior last season, where he scored 29 goals. But it has transpired that Connolly has been released and is free to move to a new club. David's agent, Michael Kennedy, has confirmed that there is strong interest in Connolly from a number of mainland Europe clubs, including two in Holland. The Dutch media have linked Connolly with moves to Sporting Gijon in Spain and Borussia Dortmund in Germany but so far no substance has been added to these rumours. The 23-year-old is still in Mick McCarthy's plans for the start of Ireland's World Cup qualifying campaign but he will need to be settled at a team by September if he is to figure in any of the games. |
