Collins ready to turn his back on Bohs - October 16, 2000

Bohemians manager Roddy Collins has applied for the vacant post at Oxford United - and says he would have no problems turning his back on Bohemians after only two years in charge at Dalymount Park.

Collins told Irish sports site setanta.com that he had applied for the vacant manager's job at Oxford and would relish the challenge with the bottom team in England's Division Two.

"I've applied for a job with Oxford. That's my ambition and the club know that. That's my ambition, to further myself as a manager," said Collins.

Yet, at the start of the season he was talking about winning the league with Bohemians. He led the team to a historic two-legged victory against Aberdeen in the UEFA Cup and followed that up with an amazing 1-0 win away at Kaiserslautern.

Bohs have been in great goalscoring form over the last couple of weeks which has seen them move up to third place in the table, just two points behind leaders Shelbourne.

The news that Collins is considering a move to England if offered a post will have Bohemians worried about being left in the lurch.

And if Collins is only punching the clock at Dalymount until something better comes along, it might be time to replace him with somebody who is dedicated to the great club.
