Jamaica join Morrison chase - February 6, 2000

Jamaica have issued a formal invitation to teenage Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison to join their World Cup campaign, in time for their qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago on February 28.

The country's technical director, Clovis de Oliveira, met Morrison in London last week to make the offer.

Morrison is also qualified for the Republic of Ireland, by ancestry, and England, the country of his birth.

Ireland manager Mick McCarthy offered the 19-year-old the chance to play against Denmark later this month but withdraw his offer when Morrison announced that he was waiting to see whether England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson was interested in his services.

McCarthy now says he will not ask Morrison again unless the Palace striker fully commits himself to the Irish cause.
