McCarthy loses patience with Morrison - January 30, 2000
Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has lost patience with dithering Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison and says he won't now select him for next month's friendly against Denmark.
Morrison is qualified for Ireland, England and two Caribbean nations - and can't make up his mind. He seemed certain to play for Ireland after McCarthy declared his interest, until he issued a "Come and get me" plea to England manager Sven Goran Eriksson last week.
McCarthy wasn't too impressed and says he won't pick the 19-year-old until he commits himself fully to the Irish cause.
"I don't feel that Clinton is in the right frame of mind to play for Ireland at the moment," the Irish boss said.
"If he wants to play for Ireland he has got to be 100 per cent committed. I don't want to be his second choice.
"Once players like myself, Ray Houghton, Andy Townsend, John Aldridge and Jason McAteer found we were eligible to play for Ireland we were 110 per cent committed - but I am not sure that Clinton is ready to make that sort of commitment at present".
