Chris Byrne suffers cruciate injury? - August 3, 2000

Ireland's Chris Byrne was stretchered off as a young Stockport side drew 0-0 tonight with Altrincham at Moss Lane.

Byrne's injury is believed to be the cruciate ligaments in the knee, but not the same knee he damaged previously, although the club are still waiting for the exact outcome of the injury to be confirmed.

The 25-year-old midfielder was in the process of negotiating a move back to his first club, Macclesfield Town but now he must but any decision on hold as he fights with the worst injury in football.

Chris moved from Macclesfield to Sunderland in 1997 and after only three-months in was sold on to Stockport County.

In recent times he has fallen out of favour at Stockport and last season went on loan to Macclesfield.

It was reported that they were interested in signing him but after this serious injury their interest will dissipate.
