Coventry sign Carsley - December 1, 2000
Lee Carsley's nightmare at Blackburn Rovers finally came to an end this morning, when Coventry unveiled the Irish midfielder at a press conference at Highfield Road.
Carsley will cost the Sky Blues £3m - only £400,000 less than what he cost Blackburn in March 1999.
Blackburn boss Graeme Souness revealed yesterday that a fee had been agreed between the clubs for the 26-year-old midfield hard man and Carsley could well figure in Coventry's important game against Bradford at Valley Parade on Saturday.
Carsley captained Blackburn Rovers and finished top scorer last season but after asking for a transfer during the summer he fell out of favour. He has spent most of this season sitting on the bench so he will be delighted with the move to Coventry -just down the road from his native Birmingham.
Gordon Strachan has been trying to strengthen his squad since the start of the season and he has been linked with Carsley on a number of occasions. The signing could work out to be a good one for Coventry because they were missing a bit of steel in the centre of the park.
