Treble joy for Burgess - November 6, 2000
Despite being sent halfway around the world to play soccer, Ireland's Ben Burgess seems to be settling in well with Australian outfit Northern Spirit - and even helped them to a fine win over Kingz FC over the weekend with a hat trick, his first senior goals Down Under. Burgess is in Australia on a year's loan with the Glasgow Rangers-owned club and has impressed everybody since he arrived a month ago from Blackburn Rovers. He was playing well up to now without scoring but he put that right on Friday night with a first half hat-trick to set up his team for a 4-2 win. Ben scored his first goal in the 23rd minute and added a second seven minutes later. He rounded off his hat-trick in the 35th minute to give his team a healthy 3-0 lead. He could have scored more in a game at Northern Spirit totally controlled but he will be happy with his contribution to the cause. |
